For early-stage founders, one mention from the right person can do more than months of content marketing. A key opinion leader who posts about your product to their audience — founders, operators, developers who trust their recommendations — puts you in front of thousands of qualified prospects in a single moment.

No ad spend, no SEO grind, no cold outreach to strangers.

The challenge is finding the right KOLs. Not influencers with large followings and no relevance.

The conference speakers, newsletter writers, and podcast hosts whose audience is your exact ICP — and who actively talk about the problem you solve. Claude handles the discovery, validation, and outreach so you're pitching the right people with the right message.

How Claude Helps You Build This

Instead of manually scrolling LinkedIn, checking conference lineups, and guessing who has the right audience, Claude runs the full KOL discovery pipeline. It finds thought leaders posting about your space, identifies speakers at events your ICP attends, validates that their audience matches your customers, finds warm intro paths, and writes personalized outreach for each one.

To do this, Claude uses five skills:

  • kol-discovery — identifies key opinion leaders by searching LinkedIn for authority posts and supplementing with web research to find conference speakers, newsletter writers, and podcast hosts in your domain.
  • conference-speaker-scraper — surfaces speakers at conferences your ICP attends, capturing high-authority KOLs with built-in audiences.
  • linkedin-commenter-extractor — maps who engages with each KOL's content to confirm their audience actually matches your ICP.
  • social-graph-ranker — ranks KOLs by relevance and identifies mutual connections for warm introductions.
  • cold-email — writes personalized outreach for each KOL, referencing their recent content with a low-friction ask.

You provide your product description and ICP. Claude finds the KOLs.

The Workflow

Step 1: Identify KOLs posting about your problem space

Tell Claude what your product does and who your ideal customer is. Using the kol-discovery skill, Claude generates authority keywords for your space and searches LinkedIn for thought leaders actively posting about the problem you solve.

It doesn't stop at LinkedIn. Claude supplements with web research to find:

  • Newsletter writers covering your industry
  • Podcast hosts interviewing founders in your space
  • Content creators publishing about the tools and workflows your ICP uses

A typical discovery run surfaces 30–75 KOL candidates depending on how niche your space is. Each one comes with their LinkedIn URL, headline, post history, and an engagement score based on volume, consistency, and relevance.

Step 2: Find KOLs who speak at events your ICP attends

Using the conference-speaker-scraper skill, Claude identifies speakers at conferences and events relevant to your ICP. Speakers carry built-in authority — they've been vetted by event organizers and have audiences that show up specifically to hear them.

Claude cross-references event speakers with the LinkedIn-sourced list from Step 1. KOLs who both post actively and speak at events rank highest — they have reach across multiple channels.

Step 3: Validate their audience matches your ICP

A KOL with 50,000 followers means nothing if those followers aren't your customers. Using the linkedin-commenter-extractor skill, Claude pulls the people engaging with each top KOL's content and checks whether they match your ICP:

  • What titles and roles are commenting?
  • What company sizes are represented?
  • Are these practitioners or bystanders?

This step filters out KOLs who look impressive on the surface but have the wrong audience. You end up with a shortlist of people whose followers are your actual buyers.

Step 4: Rank and find warm paths

Using the social-graph-ranker skill, Claude ranks your validated KOL list by relevance and reach, then maps warm intro paths through your existing network:

  • Mutual LinkedIn connections who could introduce you
  • Second-degree paths through investors, advisors, or peers
  • KOLs who've already engaged with your content or company

Warm intros convert at multiples of cold outreach. Even a single mutual connection changes the dynamic from "who is this person" to "someone I trust vouched for them."

Step 5: Write personalized outreach

Using the cold-email skill, Claude writes outreach for each KOL. Every message references something specific:

  • A recent post they wrote that connects to your product
  • A talk they gave where your product solves the problem they discussed
  • A newsletter topic where your product would be relevant to their readers

The ask stays low-friction — not "promote my product" but "thought this would be interesting for your audience" or "happy to give you early access if you want to try it." Claude writes each outreach as a peer-level message, not a pitch.

Step 6: Export and track responses

Claude exports the full ranked list as a CSV with KOL scores, contact details, top post data, and audience validation notes. You track:

  • Who responded and what they said
  • Who needs a follow-up with a different angle
  • Which KOLs converted to actual coverage or mentions

One founder who took this targeted approach — pitching people who already covered their competitors — got three to pick it up. That drove two straight weeks of sign-ups with zero ad spend.

What You Walk Away With

After running this workflow, you have:

  • A validated KOL list — 30–75 thought leaders posting about your space, scored by relevance and reach
  • Audience-verified shortlist — KOLs whose followers actually match your ICP, not just large follower counts
  • Warm intro paths — mutual connections mapped for your top-ranked KOLs
  • Personalized outreach — messages referencing each KOL's recent content, ready to send
  • A tracking system — CSV export with scores, contact data, and response tracking

Why This Matters

One KOL mention to the right audience can generate more sign-ups than months of organic content. But most founders either pitch randomly or don't pitch at all because finding the right people feels overwhelming. Claude turns KOL outreach from a guessing game into a systematic pipeline — discovery, validation, warm paths, and personalized outreach.

Combined with authentic community engagement, KOL relationships become a compounding distribution channel. They mention you once, their audience finds you, and your community presence gives them a reason to stay.
